Ministries
Extraordinary Ministers of Communion
Extraordinary Ministers of Communion (EMC’s) are commissioned by the Pastor/Administrator to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ to members of our parish either at Mass or to those who are unable to attend Mass. We are always looking for volunteers for both groups. Those who minister during Mass may be scheduled once a month to every week, depending on volunteer preferences. Those who minister outside of Mass do so on a weekly basis. For more information, please contact us at 781-444-3434 or here.
Lectors
Lectors reverently proclaim the Word of God in the readings and Prayers of the Faithful during Mass and other seasonal liturgical services. If you are interested in becoming a Lector, please contact us at 781-444-3434 or here.
Altar Servers
The Liturgy is a public act of worship that the Church gives to God. Altar Servers assist the priest while growing closer to God in their own life. Responsibilities include participating in initial and on-going training as scheduled, being available when scheduled or finding a replacement from the provided Altar Server list and arriving in the Sacristy 15 minutes before the scheduled Mass time. Altar Servers should be in the 4th grade or older. For more information, please contact us at 781-444-3434 or here.
Ushers
Ushers arrive 20 minutes before the Mass to which they are assigned, greet and welcome all people as they enter our church. They will provide seating assistance when necessary and, in general, present themselves as available assistants wherever help is needed. They collect the offertory and find individuals to bring up the gifts. They also distribute the bulletins as the congregants leave Mass. If you are interested, please contact us at 781-444-3434 or here.
Child Protection Commission
The Child Protection Commission aims to create a community of protective support within our parish. The Commission’s responsibility is to guarantee that all persons who interact with our children follow all safe environment policies. This is done by complying with Church and State regulatory requirements, and also St. Bartholomew’s safety policies. The Child Protection Commission works with the Archdiocese to make sure that all staff and volunteers have received “Protecting God’s Children” training, have a clean criminal background check, and interact appropriately with children. Any deviation will be immediately dealt with by notifying with the Pastor and following state and diocesan guidelines. They also make sure that the Religious Education program follows diocesan guidelines for educating students on good personal safety habits. If you are interested in learning more about what we do, please contact the parish office at 781-444-3434.
Catechists/Aides
As we learn and grow in faith, there are individuals who instruct and mentor us along our journey. Catechists are individuals who nurture faith in our children and teens by sharing their faith through information and witness in the parish religious education program. Catechists are not expected to be theological experts, but to live their faith and help others to develop their faith life. Responsibilities include spending approximately 1 hour per class in preparation, in addition to the scheduled class time, presenting the materials to students in an engaging and age appropriate manner and being a good role model for students. It is a truly incredible opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child. Please contact our Faith Formation team if you are interested in getting involved in our Religious Education program. If you feel that you would like to be involved but do not have the time to commit, we have plenty of special events that would be a great fit for you!!
