Who?

  • St. Bartholomew Parish has partenered with the Ste Jeanne D’Arc Haiti Foundation
  • We are a group of parishioners commited to assisting in a variety of ways (fundraising, logistics, idea sharing etc.) to see to the completion of at least one well and the sustainability of the future of the community.
  • Currently the committee is comprised of Bill Whitney, Maryellen Jennings, Hermina Hyacinth (founder of the Ste Jeanne D’Arc Haiti Foundation), along with Barbara Dury, Melisa Hughes and Fr Phil McGaugh.  Please contact the parish if you are interested in serving on this committee.

What?

  • We were asked to assist with the restauration of the water supply in the area heavily damaged by the Earthquake in Jan 2010 (previously supplying about 900 families).
  • Upon exploration of the situation, it became necessary to have a well dug to eliminate water contaminents.

Where?

  • In the Chabanne district of Petit-Goave, approximately 45 miles west of the capital Port-au-Prince.

When?

  • The lack of sustainable, clean water is an urgent health issue for the people of this area and so we are fervently working to have the first well dug as soon as possible.
  • Bill will be in Haiti in mid-May to oversee progress, and learn necessary maintenence and functioning for the well and to train local leaders in the well’s use and care.

How?

  • We have researched geography, experts, contactors, and other organizations and have now secured a suitable location and attained the necessary permission, permits, etc. for our first well.
  • A local contractor who comes highly reccomended by our contacts in Haiti has been contacted.
