From Your Pastor

Reflection for 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time: In today’s gospel Jesus asks us to develop the qualities that lead us to trust in Him. The qualities of wonder, awe and trust come so naturally to children; but adults need to work at such qualities. The child stands for openness and for an ability to ask difficult questions. To learn from Jesus, the great teacher, we must put aside our ambitions, our fears and sometimes even our dreams.

Jesus teaches us there is more to life than our ambitions and our importance. Jealousy, ambition, greed and status-seeking are all enemies from within that can get in the way of living a fully Christian life. Do these readings leave us feeling insecure? It is amazing how honest the apostles were when Jesus asked what they were discussing. There are lessons here for all of us to learn.

This is a message for all of us to be less complicated and more trusting of God. Jesus teaches us that the truly great person is the one who learns to serve others and share with others. Is nt the best leader the one who is genuinely concerned for his colleagues? The example of the Paschal Mystery of Jesus lead to loving commitment and service for God and neighbor. I pray that this will be a wonderful year of blessings for all of us.
