From Your Pastor
Reflection on the 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time: How have hungers been satisfied when people turned to Jesus? What do we look to God for? Jesus is the bread that satisfies all hunger. Jesus shows in today’s Gospel that he appreciates the physical need that people have to eat. He fed the five thousand people. Please notice that in the Lord’s Prayer there is a petition for Our Father to give us our daily bread. Jesus challenges us to work for food that endures. Jesus invites us to believe in Him and to come to Him through the Eucharist where the food and the person are one. Jesus is trying to move the crowd at Capernaum from merely the human experience to understand the element of the divine in their lives. We receive and consume the Eucharist, the Bread of Life, the Bread from heaven so that the mystery of life may draw us to eternal life. The bread that God offers us is the abiding presence of Jesus among us, always ready and willing to lead us to eternal life.
