Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
On July 16, 1251, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel appeared to Simon Stock and gave him the brown scapular, putting those who wear it under her protection. In 1726, Pope Benedict XIII made July 16th the Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. In 1945, the first atomic bomb, code named Trinity, was detonated on July 16th. In many of her apparitions, Our Blessed Mother has appeared as Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, eg. at the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima.
The annual Exposition and Adoration on this feast will begin at St. Joseph’s Lower Church after the 9:00 am Mass on Thursday, July 16th, and conclude before the 6:50 am Mass on Friday, July 17th. Come and pray for our forgiveness and protection. Sign-up sheets are at the exits of St. Bartholomew’s and in the Linse Room at St. Joseph’s.
